The Roman Institute of the Görres Society has undergone a small but effective structural reform since April. Four departments have been set up, each with a responsible officer:
Nicola Gadaleta (b. 1993, Molfetta) graduated in Modern Philology at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan and since 2019 he’s enrolled in the 14th cycle of doctoral studies at the Scuola Superiore di Studi Storici of the University of the Republic of San Marino with the project “The Cathedral Chapter of Bari from its beginnings to the early Angevin period (1309)” under the scientific direction of Prof. Dr. Francesco Panarelli and Prof. Dr. Giorgio Otranto.
On 16 June at 6 p.m., the Roman Institute of the Görres Society will celebrate its annual summer festival in San Giovanni a Porta Latina (Via di Porta Latina 17) It will begin with Holy Mass in the church, followed by a cheerful picnic in the monastery garden of the Rosminians, directly on the Aurelian city wall. All members, friends and visitors to Rome are cordially invited. Please register with This email address is being protected from spambots. In March, eager and interested relatives of the former director of the Roman Institute of the Görres Society Stephan Ehses (+ 1926) again visited the Campo Santo Teutonico, where his grave is located. Ehses came from a wine-growing family in Zeltingen. The Zucker family keeps the memory of their ancestor alive, and in doing so they delight the Institute with gifts of wine from Zeltingen, the birthplace of Stephan Ehses. This time they even brought a bottle of the "Zeltinger Schloßberg Auslese" (1994), which - certainly arranged by Stephan Ehses - was on the menu of the general assembly of the Görres Society in Koblenz in 1916.
On 8 May, at 10 am at Campo Santo Teutonico, High Mass will be celebrated in memory of Erwin Gatz (+ 8 may 2011), who was Rector of the College and Director of the RIGG from 1975 to 2010. Afterwards there will be a small concert by Anita Maria Althaus, followed by fraternity coffee.
In the meantime, a review of the Young Forum's Rome trip with pictures and lecture documents can be found on the website of the Görres Society. Despite - due to Corona - relatively short notice in the programme planning, a considerable spectrum of topics and visits was offered. The group, which was mainly made up of young historians, will certainly have experienced many suggestions for their own studies, and the RIGG has also been given a new opportunity to serve the promotion of science.
On the occasion of the 95th birthday of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, the Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI Study Library at Campo Santo Teutonico has exceeded the magic limit of 2,000 titles.
If you select FONDO PAPA BENEDETTO XVI on the library's catalogue page (KOHA), the line "La ricerca ha trovato ... risultati". On 1 May there were 2,027 hits (= book titles).
The Roman Institute of the Görres Society currently has over 230 members. In 1962 it had 45 members. The fact that the Institute has any membership at all beyond its close associates is an advantage over all other historical-scientific institutions of Rome. For it can thus look to a growing number of historically interested persons who are committed to the Institute in various ways and participate in its life.
Many guests know the lecture hall of the Campo Santo Teutonico from the Görres lectures. In the course of the new building in 1962, the present extremely unadorned hall was furnished, entirely in keeping with the taste of the time. In the files one finds its elementary furnishings: 1 podium with table and lectern; 1 table lamp; 10 wooden armchairs, 60 wooden chairs, 1 projection screen for light pictures, 2 electric radiators with 8 elements each.
In November 1962, a few weeks after the opening of the Second Vatican Council, at which he was present, the Swiss priest Hans Küng gave a Görres lecture at the Roman Institute on the subject: "Early Catholicism in the New Testament as a Controversial Theological Problem", which he published in the Tübinger Theologischen Quartalschrift (1962, 385-424).
