Many bishops know the Council of Trent better than other councils
The council that "some pastors remember best" is that of Trent (1545-1563), Pope Francis recently said according to press releases. While this is probably an overly optimistic assessment, he is also praising the successful efforts of the Roman Institute of the Görres Society, which was expressly commissioned by the popes to edit the complete records of the Council of Trent from 1901 to 2001. The RIGG has taken a new initiative to do even better interconfessional research on the Council of Trent (Martin Chemnitz Fellowship). Furthermore, the Institute has a Council History Department.
