Summer festival in Rome in future always on Corpus Christi (thursday)
This year, for the first time, the summer festival of the Görresians "Zur Letzten Wortmeldung" was celebrated on Corpus Christi Thursday in S. Giovanni a Porta Latina. About 60 guests came, many from abroad. Previously, the summer festival (since 2011) had been celebrated on alternate days in June. However, Corpus Christi Thursday is a better choice, because:
1. in Italy Corpus Christi is not celebrated on Thursday, but only on the following Sunday. In Italy, therefore, Thursday is a normal working day, so that a summer festival can easily be held.
2. the Campo Santo Teutonico celebrates the Corpus Christi procession in the Vatican on the following Saturday. This means that the Görresians who travel from Germany or Austria to the Summer Festival can stay in Rome for a few days, take part in the Corpus Christi procession and return on Sunday.
Therefore, in future the Summer Festival will always take place on Corpus Christi Thursday, i.e. next time on 8 June 2023.
