It has been 1100 years since Ulrich became Bishop of Augsburg. The diocese of Augsburg is undoubtedly one of the most traditional dioceses in Germany, and probably also one of the oldest, as Christianity was already gaining a foothold in the Roman cities - Augusta Vindelicorum - in the 4th century, even if in this case the evidence only dates back to the 6th century. Ulrich is therefore not the beginning, but merely the new beginning of a tradition that already seemed to be dying.

Following the study trips to Rome and the Holy Land organised by the Young Forum (up to 40 years of age) of the Görres Society, a trip to Dresden from 13 to 17 March is now on the agenda. This is an opportunity not to be missed.

The long-established Wissenschaftliche Buchgesellschaft - also known as the "Darmstädter Buchgesellschaft" - is insolvent. On 2 January, Herder took over part of the WBG. This means that at least one part has been saved.

The wellknown international Catholic magazine "Communio" has had an online platform with its own current articles since 7 January. Now that "Communio" is published by Herder, the magazine will gain an even greater reach with the online supplement. Prof Jan Heiner Tück, editor-in-chief, and former RIGG member Dr Benjamin Leven (photo), who left the editorial team of Herderkorrespondenz in the summer, are responsible for the online edition.

In 2024, there will be two exhibitions worth seeing with objects from the archives of St Peter's Abbey in Salzburg:
The Verbrüderungsbuch of St Peter (8th-9th century) will be on display from August 2024 in the Bavarian State Exhibition in the Freising Diocesan Museum "Tassilo, Korbinian and the Bear - Bavaria in the Early Middle Ages".
The Registrum Ottonis of the convent (around 1400) will be part of an exhibition on medieval women's convents at Klosterneuburg Abbey from April 2024

The foundation set up at the General Assembly of the Görres Society in Tübingen to promote the work of the Görres Society requires 100,000 euros as share capital. More than half of this sum has already been collected, and it would be desirable if further donors could contribute their mite.
The Roman Institute has its own foundation .

As expected, the newsletter for the second half of 2023, edited by Secretary General Dr Martin Barth, focuses on the autumn General Assembly in Tübingen. Importantly, the Görres Society has decided to establish a foundation. The RIGG already has its own "Foundation for the Promotion of the Roman Institute of the Görres Society".
