From The Institute

My name is Guido Funke. I am a priest of the diocese of Erfurt and have been a curate at the Pontifical Institute of Santa Maria dell'Anima since 1 September 2024. Here I am responsible for the pastoral care of the German-speaking students and teach at the German school in Rome. I am very honoured and pleased to be a member of the Venerable Görres Society.

Guido Horst has written an article about the Swiss Curia Cardinal Kurt Koch for the Tagespost newspaper. The occasion was the presentation of the commemorative volume ‘Einheit und Einzigkeit’ (Unity and Uniqueness) by the Roman Institute of the Görres Society. A review of the book will be announced in the Tagespost.

On 22 March, Curia Cardinal Kurt Koch, Prefect of the Dicastery for Christian Unity, was presented with the commemorative edition ‘Unity and Singleness’ by the publishers. The ceremony took place in the church of Campo Santo Teutonico. Among the 100 participants were Cardinal Emil Tscherrig, Auxiliary Bishop Peter Birkhofer and Swiss Ambassador Manuela Leimgruber.

Raphaël Hunsucker studied Classical Philology and Ancient & Medieval History at the Universities of Amsterdam, Bologna and Nijmegen. He is now about to start his PhD at the Radboud University in Nijmegen, with a thesis on the refoundation of Rome in Augustan times and (Christian) Late Antiquity, supervised by Prof. Dr Olivier Hekster, Prof. Dr Sible de Blaauw and Prof. Dr David Rijser. His research focusses on the urban Roman history of antiquity and the Middle Ages, as well as classical Latin epic and historiography. He has published on the Palatine, Maxentius & Constantine, St Cecilia in Trastevere and Emperor Otto III.
