Papstreisen im Mittelalter
Organisation - Zeremoniell - Rezeption
Christopher Kast / Claudia Märtl (edd.) | 2024
71 Supplement of the Römische Quartalschrift
The medieval popes travelled. Although the mobility of the Curia throughout the Middle Ages is a widely documented phenomenon, papal journeys have so far only been analysed in passing. For the first time, the 15 contributions in this volume examine the travelling activities of the papal court from the 11th to the 15th century in a diachronic comparison. Drawing on written as well as material, architectural and iconographic sources, the contributions take a multi-perspective approach to organisational, administrative and financial aspects, the ceremonial of travel and reception and the reception of papal journeys.
