Until 28 February 2025, you can visit an exhibition on early Christianity in Jordan at the Palazzo della Cancelleria in Rome. In fact, it is worth bearing in mind that there were also sites of the New Testament in Jordan - for example the baptism of Christ in the Jordan, which is thought to have taken place in Al-Maghtas. The subtitle of the exhibition proudly reads: ‘Jordan: Dawn of Christianity’.

It is a small exhibition with perhaps 90 to 100 artefacts that have never been shown outside Jordan before and offer a nice overview: Architectural fragments, wooden artefacts, bronze pieces, glass, ceramics, lamps and, last but not least, mosaics. Some of the mosaics are exhibited in their original form, while others, such as the magnificent mosaic map of Madaba from the 6th century AD, can be seen as copies.

At the end, visitors can watch a film that shows biblical events, probably with the help of artificial intelligence. That is a matter of taste. Last but not least, Jordan is also advertised as a holiday destination for Christians, as the ‘birthplace of Christianity’ - and why not?
The exhibition is free of charge, but online booking is required.
