Brother Adam (Raphael) Bergmann, OFM, was born on 24 December 1991 in Wels, Austria, where he graduated from a humanistic secondary school in 2010 and then did his civilian service. He completed his theology studies with stays in Germany and Israel with a diploma thesis on the tradition-historical connection of early Jewish literature (apocalyptic) and the preaching of Jesus as it is handed down in the Synoptic Gospels at the Catholic Theological Faculty with Prof. Dr. Christoph Heil in Graz.

During this time he also worked for several years on the FWF project on the Documenta Q volume on the eschatological discourse in Lk 17,23-37 Q. After graduating, Adam entered the Franciscan Province of Austria, where he spent his first years of formation in Switzerland (Werd Island near Stein am Rhein) and Italy (Mezzolombardo near Trento).

After making his first temporary profession in 2020 and accepting the religious name Adam, he enrolled in archaeology studies at the University of Graz, which he continued in the third year of studies at the Pontifical Institute for Christian Archaeology in Rome, whose rector is currently Prof. Heid.

In Rome, Brother Adam lives as a member of the international Franciscan community in the Collegio Sant'Isidoro of the Irish Franciscan Province. In his Bachelor's thesis, he is also currently working on the findings of a 2013 excavation in the Franciscan monastery in Graz, which is part of the research on the history of the city of Graz in the late Middle Ages.
Brother Adam's voluntary work is characterised by active involvement in Catholic student corporations.
